α + β = −b/a
αβ = c/a

1️⃣ Chapter Introduction

Quadratic Equation

ax² + bx + c = 0, जहाँ a ≠ 0

यहाँ a, b, c constants हैं और x variable है।

  1. Quadratic equation
  2. Factorisation से roots निकालना।
  3. Quadratic Formula से roots निकालना।

3️⃣ Basic Concepts

Example: 3x² + 5x − 7

Expression Equation
2x² + 3x + 1 2x² + 3x + 1 = 0

3.3 Quadratic Equation

ax² + bx + c = 0, a ≠ 0

Trick:
Highest power = 2 ⇒ Quadratic Equation.

4️⃣ Important Definitions

Quadratic Equation

ax² + bx + c = 0, a ≠ 0 के रूप की equation quadratic equation कहलाती है।

Root / Zero

Discriminant

Inequality

Linear Inequality

Coefficient

5️⃣ Quadratic Equations

5.1 Standard Form

ax² + bx + c = 0, a ≠ 0

यहाँ: a = coefficient of x², b = coefficient of x, c = constant term.

5.2 Factorisation Method

x² − 5x + 6 = 0
⇒ (x − 2)(x − 3) = 0
⇒ x = 2 या x = 3
Exam Point: यदि product of two factors zero है, तो कम-से-कम एक factor zero होगा।

5.3 Quadratic Formula

x = [−b ± √(b² − 4ac)] / 2a

5.4 Completing the Square

x² + 6x + 5 = 0
x² + 6x + 9 = 4
(x + 3)² = 4
x + 3 = ±2
x = −1, −5

5.5 Nature of Roots

Discriminant D Roots की Nature
D > 0 दो distinct real roots
D = 0 दो equal real roots
D < 0 कोई real root नहीं
D = b² − 4ac

5.6 Equal / Distinct / Real / Non-real Roots

  • D > 0: real and unequal.
  • D = 0: real and equal.
  • D < 0: non-real/complex conjugate roots when coefficients are real.

  1. Factorisation
  2. Quadratic Formula
  3. Completing the Square
  4. Graphical interpretation

α + β = −b/a
αβ = c/a

Sign

For real roots α, β:

α + β αβ Possible sign information
Any Negative Roots opposite signs

7️⃣ Relations Between Roots and Coefficients

7.1 Fundamental Relations

Quadratic equation:

ax² + bx + c = 0

α + β = −b/a
αβ = c/a

7.2 Derivation

a(x − α)(x − β) = 0

Expand

a[x² − (α+β)x + αβ] = 0

ax² − a(α+β)x + aαβ = 0

Compare with:

ax² + bx + c = 0

−a(α+β) = b
aαβ = c

α+β = −b/a
αβ = c/a

7.3 Roots के expressions

α² + β² = (α+β)² − 2αβ
(α−β)² = (α+β)² − 4αβ
1/α + 1/β = (α+β)/(αβ)
1/αβ = 1/(αβ)
α³ + β³ = (α+β)³ − 3αβ(α+β)
α²β + αβ² = αβ(α+β)

7.4 Given Roots से Equation बनाना

k[x² − (α+β)x + αβ] = 0

8️⃣ Inequalities

8.1 Inequality Symbols

Symbol Meaning
> Greater than
< Less than
≥ Greater than or equal to
≤ Less than or equal to

8.2 Multiplication/Division Rule

−2x > 6
x < −3

8.3 Quadratic Inequality

x² − 5x + 6 > 0

पहले factorise करें:

(x−2)(x−3) > 0

Critical points: 2

Interval Sign
x < 2 +
2 < x < 3 −
x > 3 +

9️⃣ Linear Inequalities

9.1 One Variable

3x + 5 > 14
3x > 9
x > 3

9.2 Negative Coefficient

−4x ≤ 20
x ≥ −5

9.3 Two Variables

Linear inequality:

ax + by ≤ c

Condition Boundary
Boundary included
Boundary excluded

9.4 Simultaneous Linear Inequalities

x > 2
x ≤ 7

2 < x ≤ 7

⚡ Formula / Rules / Tricks

Quadratic Formula

x = (−b ± √(b²−4ac))/2a

Discriminant

D = b² − 4ac

Sum of Roots

α + β = −b/a

Product of Roots

αβ = c/a

Square Sum

α²+β²=(α+β)²−2αβ

Difference of Roots

(α−β)²=(α+β)²−4αβ

Reciprocal Sum

1/α + 1/β = (α+β)/(αβ)

Cubic Sum

α³+β³=(α+β)³−3αβ(α+β)

🧠 Fast Decision Rules

Detailed Solutions

Q1: x²−9x+20=(x−4)(x−5), इसलिए roots 4,5.

Q2: D=36−36=0, इसलिए equal real roots.

Q3: α+β=−b/a=−7/2.

Q4: αβ=c/a=2/3.

Q5: α²+β²=(α+β)²−2αβ=49−20=29.

🧠 15️⃣ Concept Based Questions

Q1. Why?

Q2. Statement Based

Q3. Concept Trap

Q4. Application

α²+β²=(α+β)²−2αβ.

🔴 16️⃣ Advanced Level

16.1 Parameter और Root Nature

ax²+bx+c=0
Distinct real roots ⇒ D>0
Equal real roots ⇒ D=0
No real roots ⇒ D<0

16.2 Roots के बीच Distance

(α−β)²=(α+β)²−4αβ

और:

α−β = ±√[(α+β)²−4αβ]

16.3 Equation with Reciprocal Roots

c/a = 1
⇒ c=a

16.4 Opposite Roots

α+(−α)=0
⇒ −b/a=0
⇒ b=0

16.5 Quadratic Inequality — Complete Sign Analysis

f(x)=a(x−α)(x−β), α<β

यदि a>0:

f(x)>0 ⇒ x<α या x>β
f(x)<0 ⇒ α<x<β

D=0 ⇒ no real roots.

D=0 ⇒ two equal real roots.

❌ गलत: α+β=b/a.

✅ सही: α+β=−b/a.

❌ गलत: αβ=−c/a.

✅ सही: αβ=c/a.

❌ गलत: Negative number से divide करने पर inequality sign same रहेगा।

✅ सही: Product positive ⇒ same sign; sum देखकर sign तय करें।

🚀 18️⃣ Exam Strategy

Question देखते ही Approach

  6. Parameter है? D की condition बनाएं।
  7. Options दिए हैं? जरूरत होने पर option verification/elimination करें।

Revision Strategy
